Putting your Facebook fan page on the map

For class on Monday, March 22, we'll meet on the second floor of the Bracken Library in the GIS Research and Map Collection. As the GRMC website explains, there are more than 145,000 maps, atlases, images, and pieces of data in the collection. For the purposes of your Facebook fan page, Melissa Gentry and Angie Gibson are going to show us how you might include digital aerial photography, a custom Google map or historic map, and/or photographs from the Digital Media Repository.

The GRMC has its own blog, which discusses some of the research that can be done using its data. If you are interested in visual compositions, you might find some of the digital collages interesting, such as the exhibit on the women's baseball league of the 1940s and 50s completed for Women's History Month.

Basically, almost any topic you can research can be explored through GRMC. This might be a valuable source for your other projects. For instance, a recent GRMC blog explains how to access current earthquake information on Haiti.

There are some fun map sites and collections, like the one featuring fictional places such as Oz (left).
